Pokémon Scarlet’s Ancient Paradox Pokémon, Flutter Mane, litters the competitive scene in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet competitions. This Pokémon is everywhere, and skilled trainers take advantage of its unique typing and very high Special Attack. Flutter Mane also is very versatile as it is given a large move pool that provides advantages in double battles. Whether using this Pokémon to win a battle or facing against it, understanding Flutter Mane is important to succeed in teambuilding each season.
Flutter Mane is an exclusive edition Pokémon of Pokémon Scarlet which can be traded to Pokémon Violet. It is an Ancient Paradox Pokémon that can be found in Area Zero. It is mostly found around Research Station 4 in the main cavern where AI Professor Sada shows her Time Machine. To increase the chance of encountering a Flutter Mane consider using an isolation method of catching Pokémon with a Fairy-type or Ghost-type Power Sandwich.
Stat Builds for Flutter Mane
The key features to trainers using Flutter Mane for VGC battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are its very high Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed stats. Therefore, considering sets with Flutter Mane involve making sure these three stats are Hyper Trained in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as well as EV trained. Furthermore, due to Flutter Mane being a Special Attacking “sweeper” on any team, the two different Nature Mints, Modest and Timid, can be used depending on what stat the trainer feels like is more important to their team composition.

Held Items for Flutter Mane
The best held items for Flutter Mane during Pokémon Scarlet and Violet VGC battles involve boosting its power or helping its longevity. Finding and giving a Life Orb in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to Flutter Mane will give it continuous damage output on the field making it a threat to an opponent. Similar to the Life Orb, Choice Specs are given to Flutter Mane as an even stronger way to boost its power but with some restraints.
Since it only allows one of the Pokémon’s moves to be used each turn, trainers using Choice Specs should know when to switch Flutter Mane in and out to keep it boosted and alive.
Finally, if the trainer gives it a Focus Sash, physically attacking Pokémon will be surprised when the Flutter Mane survives a turn and returns an attack knocking them out instead.
Best Moves & Tera Type for Flutter Mane
Flutter Mane is one of the best dual-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. With many strong same-type attack bonus moves Flutter Mane is able to find counters to many of its competition. Additionally, the most popular move according to Pikalytics for Season 2 ranked matches, is Shadow Ball due to many Ghost-type Pokémon in the metagame.
Following up with STAB moves Moonblast or Dazzling Gleam are important as Fairy-type moves are offensively very strong against many Pokémon. Finally, to increase the power of these moves even further Tera Type Ghost- or Fairy- is recommended as Flutter Mane isn’t a defensive Pokémon and can benefit from even more firepower.
Instead of farming Tera Shards to change Flutter Mane’s Tera Type to Fairy- or Ghost-, consider catching a Flutter Mane with the preferred Tera Type in the wild since they have a 50% chance of either having those two Tera Types.
